Yacht Harbour Shops and Businesses
The Bath & Turtle Pub & Liquor Store serves Caribbean dishes, seafood, pasta, pizza and burgers. They also liquor store and free lending library. At the end of the waterfront shopping plaza in Spanish Town sits the most popular pub on Virgin Gorda, packed with locals during happy hour, from 4:30 to 6:30pm. There are indoor and courtyard tables. Even if you’re not hungry, you might want to join the regulars over midmorning mango coladas or peach daiquiris. If you’re hungry, you can order fried fish fingers, tamarind-ginger wings, very spicy chili, or daily seafood specials such as conch fritters. There’s live music every Wednesday and Friday night. Nestled into the courtyard at the Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, the Bath and Turtle is one of the island’s favorite eateries. Recently, owner Rosemary Giacinto has made a good thing better with the addition of the Rendezvous Bar, located on the harbour’s edge. In either location, both residents and visitors can enjoy good food at reasonable prices. Rosemary and her husband Mike had run Marina Cay in the early 80s, but eventually returned to New York. They hankered to be back in the islands, though, and when Bath and Turtle came up for sale, “we saw a golden opportunity to move back,” Rose explains. The couple opened the restaurant in 1988, and soon expanded the kitchen and dining area. “We became the place to be,” says Rose, and when Mike passed away in 1992, she stayed on. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and its varied menu ranges from gourmet burgers to a choice of 15 pizzas. Seafood is also a specialty, along with local dishes including the ubiquitous roti. Among the restaurant’s popular dishes are its Hurricane Tamarind Ginger Wings (or Ribs), which like any good hurricane, ranges in category from one to five. An entertainment hotspot, the Rendezvous Bar sports two flat screen TVs and has bands on Wednesdays and Sundays. A Halloween party on Oct 31 and a “do” for the Caribbean 1500 Phat Virgin Race hosted along with the Yacht Harbour on Nov. 15 are some events to look forward to each year. Tel: (284) 495 5239
